The District Commander of the Police is an extremely important position in the hierarchy of the institution responsible for maintaining public safety and order, especially related to the creation of formal and informal coalitions for the security of local communities. As a public administration body, it is directly responsible for the implementation of statutory tasks of the Police in the area delimited by the county boundaries, acting in the vicinity of entities representing the local government administration, co-responsible for the safety of the inhabitants of a given territory. Therefore, when choosing the above-mentioned level from among the Police bodies as the subject of research, the following research problem should be formulated: What is the place of the District Commander of the Police among the public admin-istration bodies responsible for security and public order at the local level? When conducting research using historical and current legal regulations, in particular pragmatic acts, it is worth answering the fol-lowing questions: What tasks and competences does the district commander of the Police have? Which local government bodies and to what extent are responsible for the implementation of tasks in the field of citizen security at the local level? Are there any dependencies (of what kind) between the Police and local government bodies in the area of maintaining security and order?
