This article is an attempt to explore the difficult relationship between two artists – father and son in Wacław Berent's novel Próchno. In the first part of the article, I focus on presenting the biography of Wacław Berent before explaining the structure of the novel. The problematic analysis of the chosen topic begins with the presentation of one of the main characters of Próchno, Władysław Borowski. Władysław is an example of a character whose relationship with his father has a significant impact on the quality of both life and decisions made. Due to their completely different attitude to life, both father and son become interesting subjects for interpretation. Berent's novel describes the hardships of artists struggling with decadent reality.
