Abstract

The aim of the work is to investigate and analyze road accidents involving pedestrians and their consequences, as well as to determine the impact of the condition of road infrastructure on the safety of unprotected road users, such as pedestrians. An important element is also to indicate actions that can reduce the consequences of these road accidents. This article reviews the literature on pedestrian safety and road infrastructure for pedestrian use, and also analyzes historical statistical data from the Annual Reports of the Police Headquarters in Warsaw. Additionally, the research was conducted using the diagnostic survey method. The safety of pedestrians as unprotected road users is an important topic, as it concerns every person who moves every day to meet their needs. A decreasing trend can be observed in the occurrence of road accidents and their consequences, for pedestrians among others. This accident rate may be influenced by the insufficient condition of infrastructure intended for pedestrian use. Therefore, it should be constantly improved to serve all road users as effectively as possible.
