Abstract

The article presents the way of understanding the icon by Michel Quenot, taking into account his philosophical as well as theological reflections. The text is based on the book The Resurrection and the Icon. The author conducts extremely extensive reflections, in which he analyses the issue of delimiting the boundary between philosophy and theology and the role and significance of contemporary art. By outlining the situation of man today on the basis of contrast, he distinguishes the concept of sacred art. According to him, the icon occupies a special place among other works. It becomes a place of penetration of divinity into the world. This is possible thanks to the saving intervention of Jesus Christ – therefore the theme oscillating around the resurrection becomes another point of reflection. The whole reflection is summed up by showing the message of icons to the world. The aim of this article is to extract and show icons in an individual and social context.
