Ideologically ethical image of the Polish radical intelligentsia of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries – the era of eminent theoreticians of education and upbringing

Abstract

The article is an attempt to show the ethical and ideological image of the radical Polish intelligentsia of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.  Three representatives of this formation: Edward Abramowski, Janusz Korczak, and Jan Władysław Dawid are its prominent representatives. In their socio-political thought, issues concerning education, education, and upbringing occupy an important place. Education is never neutral, it is usually political, which is shown by representatives of critical pedagogy, such as Henry A. Giroux. The educational reality is the object of attention not only of educators, but also of thinkers, moralists, social activists, organisers, and politicians. The study is an attempt to find a common denominator in the ideas of ’repairing the world‘ of the study’ protagonists, representatives of Polish intellectuals and social activists of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Their work and activity stemmed from their disagreement with the existing socio-political reality, and education and upbringing, in their view, were to be a factor of social change.
