The paper presents a linguistic analysis of Polish and English names of rare infectious diseases published in the Orphanet database. The study is based on a corpus of 227 terms from the Rare infectious disease ORPHA: 68416 category. Qualitative analysis included classification of names according to their formation mechanisms and identification of international-isms, eponyms, and toponyms. The qualitative part examined translation strategies used in the Polish version of the Orphanet database, including syntactic adaptation, modulation, and reduction of semantic components. The compliance of terms with the naming principles recommended in the specialist literature was also assessed.
