Abstrakt

Surnames formed on the basis of apellative lexis, were created from common words, by means of a complete transfer of a given word to the personal name or by means of combining common words with various suffixes. However, it has to be stressed that modern surnames have no connotations as far as their dictionary meaning s are concerned. Upon shifting from the pool of common words to the anthroponym group, words lost their lexical connotations entirely. The prominent issue discussed in this thesis is the structural analysis of surnames pertaining to common words. Therefore the focus is the structure of anthroponyms based on appellative lexis, or what derivation procedures accompanied their creation. It is difficult to indicate suffix formants distinctive of surnames pertaining to common words. The abundance of such surnames results in a high number of possible surname-formative formants. My analysis of surnames excerpted from the records in the public registers from Sławatycze dated 1915-1921 aims to distinguish and characterize word-formation formants representative of the examined area. The most plentiful are derived words, created by means of adding East Slavic suffixes such as: -uk, -czuk, -ko, -in, -un, -ło and others. Also common are names created on the basis of foreign, especially Ukrainian and Russian stems. The thesis comprises a dictionary of surnames that indicates the semantic root of anthroponyms found in the sources.
