Abstrakt

This paper examines the representation of the male protagonists‘ emotionality in Vanda ozenbergová´s novels Common Night Peace (2020) and Man in Depression, Children in Love (2017). The conceptual framework of the paper rests on the literary character analysis based on the exploration of the mimetic and thematic dimensions of the literary character. The analysis concentrates on delineating various forms of escapism as they emerge within the mimetic dimension of character construction. In parallel, it examines the interrelation between narrative space, personal thematics, and masculine emotionality within the thematic dimension of character analysis. Emotionality, implicitly rendered and directed inward, constitutes a central element of these novels; it not only shapes the characterization of male protagonists but also imbues the narrative space with additional layers of meaning.
